1st Stage of Program Plan
This is probably the most important stage of the program planning. The child that one point seemed totally aloof and unreachable, has started interacting, showing ability of processing information and more than anything, has become affectionate and is trying to communicate with gestures or pecs. Parents feel thrilled and hopefull. Kids who have better auditory memory usually start gaining language with 4 - 6 hours / day of one on one child directed play. However those who learn primarily by visuals need language and learning steps broken visually. The task demands should be within child's reach so that the interaction and bond established is not jeopardized.
1. Receptive Language
The pecs. that the child has been using, labelled pictures of family members, home, school, park, favourite activities. I will describe the procedure with the plan.
Then start targetting the early vocabulary words, as labelled pictures, along with the use of vocabulary videos, cds.
Record some everyday sounds in your house, ring of doorbell, telephone, blender etc. and with the help of pictures, teach the child noun and sound association.
2. Expressive Language
Using sentence strip with the pecs. for requesting.
Making fun animal sounds, emotion sounds, than letter sounds.
3. Interactive Books
A personal book about what makes Aliyan happy. Labelled pictures on each page and repitition of the sentence. Will send you the first few pages to give you an idea.
Another book about what makes him sad. Later will introduce Aliyan likes / Aliyan doesn't like.
Songs with manipulatives to encourage actions.
4. Enhancing Fine Motor Skills ( first dominant side, than bilateral)
With the help of tracing exercises, connecting lines, Picture activity schedule.
5. Pre- academic Skills
By matching and sequencing letters / numbers.
6. Introduction of the following Visual Boards
Choices and sentense strips
Activity board
